A judge has upheld a major $19.1 million verdict in a Philadelphia car accident lawsuit won by Matt Casey, a founding partner at Ross Feller Casey.

Judge John Milton Younge of the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas ruled on April 10 that the verdict, won by Casey in May 2013 on behalf of his client Patrick Hennessy, was not excessive.

Hennessy lost his leg as a result of an accident that occurred in 2009 while he was helping push his friend's disabled car to the side of Roosevelt Boulevard in Philadelphia.

“The plaintiff was a young man who suffered an extremely painful above the knee amputation that will almost certainly cause complications in the future,” Younge wrote in his opinion as reported in a front-page article in today's Legal Intelligencer newspaper.

Delay damages were also awarded in the case, bringing the total amount of the verdict, including accumulated interest, to $20.2 million.

Casey told The Legal Intelligencer that there "is no basis for a new trial. Judge Younge made the right decision."
