A jury has ordered a hospital to pay $17.8 million in a medical malpractice case alleging a newborn suffered severe brain damage as a result of a wrong drug dosage before surgery.
The verdict is believed to be the largest ever for a medical malpractice case in the county and involved the failure to timely diagnose and treat cervical cancer in a young girl.
We trust our doctors to “do no harm,” but when the negligence of a doctor or other healthcare provider results in a preventable injury, they can be sued for medical malpractice.
