As the lead story in its Sunday edition, The Bloomsburg Press Enterprise reported that Matt Casey of Ross Feller Casey has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit involving the death of a 26-year-old mother of two.
Doctors at three northeastern Pennsylvania hospitals over two weeks had numerous opportunities to treat Jessica Marie Gensel's headaches, which were misdiagnosed as migraines. Simple tests would have determined that a brain clot was causing the headaches, but those tests were not performed until it was too late for Gensel, who died April 1 of a brain hemorrhage.
Among those named as defendants are Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre, and Geisinger Health System. The suit lists 70 examples of “carelessness and negligence” that resulted in the death of Gensel, who leaves behind two sons, ages 9 and 4.
The newspaper pointed out that the "case is eerily similar to another legal battle" filed by Ross Feller Casey that is "playing out in local court."
Last month, Casey filed a lawsuit involving the high-profile case of Dr. Jennifer Sidari, who, like Gensel, was 26 when she died of a brain clot that tragically went undiagnosed at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center (read more about the Sidari case).
“There are striking and unfortunate similarities between the two cases, and one goal of the litigation will be to determine whether any systemic deficiencies explain both tragic deaths,” Casey, a founding partner at Ross Feller Casey, told the Press Enterprise. Read the Full Story here
