Using Malpractice Claims to Help Physicians Avoid Diagnostic Mistakes

View all news posts

The Wall Street Journal reported this week that a growing number of medical professions are learning from the mistakes that lead to malpractice suits.

As a result, some are even using electronic alerts and reminders to order tests, follow up on lab reports and to stay connected with specialists to whom they refer patients.

"Medicine is often a crapshoot and an odds game," and doctors can miss a diagnosis even if they adhere to guidelines on when to order a test, Dr. Peter Pronovost, a patient-safety researcher at Johns Hopkins University, told the Journal.

Ross Feller Casey attorneys have won a series of major medical malpractice victories, including a $22 million verdict for a brain injury during child birth, an $18.4 million verdict for a child who suffered a stroke and a $10 million verdict for pediatric malpractice.
