Michael Rozen, Penn State's lead negotiator for the Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse civil cases, told The Legal Intelligencer that several claims handled by Ross Feller Casey, LLP, were at the top tier of all the settlements.

While not commenting directly about the settlement amounts, Rozen did disclose to the legal journal how the 31 claims against Penn State were placed into three hierarchical categories.

In the front-page story, he said the process was determined by when the abuse occurred and whether Penn State was clearly on notice. The category with the highest amounts was for claims with abuse after February 2001 when Penn State officials were told that Sandusky had abused a boy, later to become known as Victim 2, in a campus shower.

Several of Ross Feller Casey's clients fit into that top category, Rozen said.

Ross Feller Casey, represents more Sandusky victims than any other law firm. They are three who testified at Sandusky's trial -- Victim 3, Victim 7 and Victim 10 -- Victim 2, Sandusky's adopted son, Matt Sandusky and two others.

Rozen also commended Matt Casey and Joel Feller, founding partners of Ross Feller Casey, for how they handled the negotiation process.

"In some respects," he said, "dealing with Matt and Joel was a lot easier than dealing with my own side of the equation."
