Major Lawsuit Filed Over Fatal Shooting of Lowe’s Employee in Scranton
Ross Feller Casey has filed a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of the family of Jeffrey Moeller Jr., a Lowe’s employee who was fatally shot by a coworker inside the Scranton Lowe’s store on June 14, 2025.

The lawsuit, filed in the Lackawanna County Court of Common Pleas, alleges that Lowe’s failed to take reasonable steps to protect Mr. Moeller despite repeated warnings and clear signs of escalating workplace conflict. According to the complaint, the company was aware of ongoing, targeted harassment and increasingly concerning behavior directed at Mr. Moeller by coworker Christopher Wasnetsky.
The filing states that for more than a year before the shooting, Mr. Moeller raised safety concerns with Lowe’s management, both verbally and in writing. He warned that he believed the situation posed a serious risk to his own safety and to others and asked the company to intervene. The lawsuit alleges that management assured him action would be taken, but meaningful protective steps were never implemented.
According to the complaint, Lowe’s also received a written communication from Wasnetsky shortly before the shooting in which he acknowledged that the company could have prevented Mr. Moeller’s death.
“Workplace safety is a fundamental responsibility,” said Joel J. Feller, a founding partner at Ross Feller Casey, who represents the Moeller family along with Scott S. Berger, Jr., Esq. “The lawsuit alleges that Lowe’s knew about a targeted and worsening personal conflict, understood that behavior was deteriorating, and was informed directly that the situation was becoming more serious.”
Feller added that Mr. Moeller sought help while continuing to do his job and relied on assurances that the company would protect him. The lawsuit alleges that had basic safety measures been taken, this tragedy could have been avoided.
