Ross Feller Casey founding partner Joel J. Feller reached an $18 million settlement with Erie Insurance Exchange in a bad-faith action on behalf of the family of a teenage boy who sustained severe brain injuries in a car crash.
The recovery is the largest such “bad-faith” settlement with an insurer involving a $100,000 policy ever in Pennsylvania.
The case involved Stephen Piper, then 15, who was a passenger in a car driven by his brother, Kyle, when it crashed in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania in February 2003.
The Legal Intelligencer newspaper ran a front-page article on the settlement.
