Penn State has paid nearly $60 million to settle child sex abuse claims by victims of former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky, the university announced this week.
In all, the school said it paid $59.7 million to settle 23 claims that were fully completed and three others that are agreed to in principle. Confirmation of the settlements came nearly two years after Sandusky was charged.
In a prepared statement, University President Rodney Erickson said the school "cannot undo what has been done, but we can and must do everything possible to learn from this and ensure it never happens again at Penn State."
Ross Feller Casey founding partners Matt Casey and Joel J. Feller successfully represented seven victims: Victim 2, Victim 3, Victim 7 and Victim 10, and Sandusky's adopted son, Matt Sandusky, and others. That was more than any other single law firm.
In an interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer, Casey called the settlements "another important milestone for our clients in closing this chapter and moving on with their lives."
