Matt Casey won a $10 million recovery for the wife of a 40-year-old welder from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, who died when a pressurized water tank he was working on exploded.

The settlement is the eighth-largest products liability award or settlement of the last decade in Pennsylvania, according to verdicts and settlements reported in PaLaw magazine.

The case, Potsko v. McIntire Fabricators Inc., was settled after two days of testimony in 2010.

Theodore Potsko was killed Dec. 28, 2006, while working as a welder for Constructural Dynamics, also known as Silvi Concrete Products.

In the lawsuit, Casey had argued that the water tank was defectively designed, ruptured below the rated pressure capacity of 55 pounds per square inch and that there were inadequate warnings of the tank’s risk of rupturing because of pressure.
