The Death of Dr. Jennifer Sidari
Jan. 7, 2013 - Ross Feller Casey, LLP has filed a medical malpractice / wrongful death lawsuit against Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center on behalf of the parents of Dr. Jennifer Sidari, who died of a blood clot in her brain at the age of 26, just two weeks after earning her medical degree. Doctors at the Northeastern Pennsylvania hospital failed to timely perform basic tests on Dr. Sidari, including head imaging, when she went there suffering from persistent headaches and bruising in May 2013.
If those tests were performed earlier, the blood clot would have been "easily correctable and she would be alive and well today, fulfilling her dream of becoming a pediatrician," according to the suit filed by Attorney Matt Casey on behalf of Peter and Patricia Sidari.
Casey, a founding partner at Ross Feller Casey, is litigating the case.
"This is a terrible tragedy that befell one of Northeastern Pennsylvania's brightest stars," Casey told The Scranton Times-Tribune. "It shouldn't have happened. We intend to fully get to the bottom of why it happened."
The suit was filed in Luzerne County Court on January 7.
Several Pennsylvania newspapers ran front-page stories on the lawsuit:
- The Scranton Times, January 9, 2014
- The Wilkes Barre Times Leader, January 8, 2014
- Bloomberg Press Enterprise, January 8, 2014
